You know how when you were a child, the world was new, and time passed more slowly because every moment was a discovery...travel feels like that to me.
Best cup of coffee in my life was in the hills of Guatemala. The beans were harvested from the surrounding coffee fields, and the Mayan woman ground them and roasted them over an open fire on the dirt floor of her modest home. The most challenging place I've been is India and not for being harassed in the streets...more from the overwhelming array of stimuli. Colors seemed brighter in India. Favorite breakfast is dan bing in Taiwan. Lazy beaches in Thailand always make me smile.
I love when a travel memory flashes to mind. It's like remembering a dream: all the pieces so diverse and yet held together, precariously, by some common thread--the mark of a moment. And maybe that's what makes the bug come back: knowing the possibility of those moments...the moments that freeze time, the moments that make the world feel new again.
The railroad track is miles away,
ReplyDeleteAnd the day is loud with voices speaking,
Yet there isn't a train goes by all day
But I hear its whistle shrieking.
All night there isn't a train goes by,
Though the night is still for sleep and dreaming,
But I see its cinders red on the sky,
And hear its engine steaming.
My heart is warm with friends I make,
And better friends I'll not be knowing;
Yet there isn't a train I wouldn't take,
No matter where it's going.

Rebecca, all I can say is, nice. My favorite breakfast was on the Pacific coast of Mexico: tacos of grilled mahi mahi, mango, and salsa. corn tortillas fresh from the tortilleria, the yard full of palms, ferns, and the chirps of days-old baby chickens...see you in Kamala. Jim
